My boss kicked off the idea of holding what we call Tech Forums at work, where one of us will present back to the rest of the team on something we’ve recently learned or coded. For the audience it’s a really easy way to pick up new knowledge fast and ask questions. The presenter gets a real depth of understanding from teaching the subject and also gets a great opportunity to practice presentation skills.
Just before Christmas I read The Art of Estimation by Steve McConnell and presented back a sort of Reader’s Digest style review of the stuff relevant to the team. I used the opportunity to try out the zen style of presentation I first picked up from reading Dave Bouwman’s blog. Check out the deck below:
